Partnering with Connected Fanatics to redefine the value of merchandise in the football industry

Problem
Connected Fanatics approached ProdActive to design their LOCKEROOM SaaS. Their product in essence utilises NFC technology to unlock exclusive fan experiences within football clubs and builds on the potential use for NFTs and the Metaverse.
We started this project during the height of tension between fans, clubs and league management due to the contention of the top tier clubs wanting to form a ‘Super-League’ in early 2021. This disruption in the football community was the height of other social issues that occur frequently such as racism, sexism and foul play on social media platforms towards players. On a platform level, we found that each club had their fan engagement across multiple social-media channels which left their fans feeling underwhelmed and football tribes and sub-tribes lacking in social togetherness.
Our solution needed to take into consideration the true nature of the football fans' opinions as well as fulfilling each of the stakeholders in the football business.

The Connected Fanatics Platform & App
LOCKEROOM is a B2B platform solution for all sized football clubs that enables fans to engage with their club all in one place. The five main features of this solution includes the CMS - which informs all the content in the user app as well as managing the NFC enabled products. Within the app there are four key features:
- Clubhouse: An aggregated feed that keeps fans engaged through collecting content from multiple squad channels a club can create at their discretion.
- The Community Feed: A safe space where fans can discuss trending topics with their community.
- Match Day: The cornerstone of the app which is a gated experience that can only be unlocked through tapping your NFC integrated football shirt.
- The LOCKEROOM: This is where all of the user's digital assets are stored. The main driving force for this feature was inspired by the environmental impact of the current football Jersey’s carbon footprint.
With the LOCKEROOM, fans can subscribe to a lifetime of exclusive club experience through a single Jersey. This drastically reduces their consumption of multiple jerseys every year and saves clubs millions in manufacturing costs by incorporating a subscription based business model.
